Pastor John is a graduate of Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina (1993) and he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible. He was ordained to the Gospel ministry in 1994 and became a full-time assistant pastor on April 1, 1995.

It was at BJU that John met his wife, Darla, and they were married on November 27, 1993. Together they serve the people of Gospel Baptist Church. Darla is the church pianist and heavily involved in the music program.

John and Darla have three children: John IV, James, and Julianne. Pastor John regularly ministers at the prison, in multiple areas of evangelism, as principal of Gospel Baptist Christian School and shares a major portion of the administrative duties of the church with the Senior Pastor. John also teaches a Sunday school class for young adults and challenges them with Biblical answers to the issues of today.

John Boutchia is a man sent from God. The day he walked in to church, Pastor Lytell shook his hand and said, "God sent you here." Unusual as that may seem, that turned out to be exactly the truth. Pastor John has added enthusiasm, creativity, and a servant's spirit to the church. He carries much of the load of administration and management of both the church and school. He is a soul winner, teacher, educator, but above all, a man of God.
