The Gym conception was about 14 years ago. God laid it on my heart while praying for creative wisdom to reach more people for Christ. I ran it by our Deacons and we agreed it was a good direction for vision and began to see what God would do. We decided as we have with other building projects at Gospel to only “pay as we go” with no plan B in case the money does not come in. We trusted in the living God to supply through His people and move His people if He so desired. In that first year, we received two major gifts of $100,000 which simply knocked our socks off. This had never happened before and we were convinced that this was a “go ahead” for the Gym.
Shortly the economy collapsed and we became the third hardest hit area in the USA. The idea of a Gym was paused until God showed us differently. Some 10 years past with only about $30,000 more coming in on the Gym. I was moved deeply to start up the project again with the men and people. With the $230,000 we got the architect, plans, and building proposal ready which came to about $500,000 finished. We voted to proceed initial construction of site and pouring of the slab and purchasing the metal. This was all the money we had. As the project started no fancy money raising schemes were allowed or promoted, just an occasional announcement that we are building a Gym if you would like to help. I do not believe we have to pressure God’s people if God is in it. No emotional stories, or sermons were given, just praying that God would help us.
Within two years the money came in and the Gym was finished as pictured. This is a fabulous tool for our Christian School and Church activities, seeing it rains so much in South Florida. We believe that this Gym will minister for 50-75 years in normal circumstances and will be a “tree planted by us that others will sit under”.
I encourage you to consider paying as you go on God’s work. God is glorified and shows you when to stop or go. With so many churches getting into financial trouble with debt, we decided to let God do it or not do it at all.
Glory to God for His strong hand of power and might in showing us how “faith” is the best way.
