Free Ice Cream for Bus Kids! Wow! After calling for bus kids for over 35 years in many different environments, I can say that nothing I have ever seen works as good in getting new names for your bus ministry than an ice cream truck giving away cups of .25 cent each ice cream. We had the idea to paint an old airport-type van like the local ice cream trucks and play the same ice cream songs while going up and down our bus route neighborhoods - giving out free ice cream.

We use only women outside the bus, for obvious reasons, and take the names of the kids who will give them to us. As an example, the first time a group of four women took one of our ice cream trucks into a neighborhood, they took 17 new names down and had 7 of those kids come to Sunday School and church the next Sunday. A week later, they received 13 new names. One week later, they received 23 new names. That is 53 new names in three weeks! In all my years of calling, I never have been that successful in getting new names for any bus route I did in such a short period of time.

It costs about $30.00 per two hour session, including the dry ice, if you use it. It involves the women in a calling ministry that is safe, fun, and productive in winning souls, with a fabulous side benefit… free ice cream! Ha.
